In partnership with Groupe Plurial, major stakeholder for accommodation in the Champagne-Ardenne region, and the Regional Council of the Order of Architects.
The competition is on rehabilitating a social housing complex that is emblematic of the constructions of the 1960s and that is operated by l’Effort Rémois in Reims. The idea is to reward effective architectural treatment in its urban, social, technical, and environmental reality, offering energy performance enabling this typical heritage of the 1960s to be conserved.
Students of European architecture schools have a formidable challenge to take up because the aim is to take the building from its category-F classification to category C or D, i.e. below a consumption of 195 kwh/m2/year. They should propose solutions for insulating façades from the outside while conserving the character of the buildings, allowing the method of construction using noble materials to show through as a trace of the heritage.
Au vu de la complexité du projet et le manque de temps accordé aux étudiants, le jury à décidé de reporter le rendu au 16 décembre 2011.

Led by two Parisian architects, Serge and Lipa GOLDSTEIN, renowned for the originality of their projects and the transformation of urban areas in Reims (Goldorak building…), the jury was composed of :
Mr Alain Niboyet, architect from Groupe Plurial
Mr Olivier Lemont, architect from CROA (Regional Council of the Order of Architects)
Mrs Annabelle Royer, architect from ARCAD (Agency for Sustainable Construction and Development in Champagne Ardenne)
1st Prize: Clément LOBBENS & Frédérique BARCHELARD (ENSA Paris la Villette) for PITCH HOUSE, appreciated for its unique architectural conception rather than its sustainable development and repetitiveness approach in an urban project. Slightly steep-sided in order ro retain terrestrial inertia, PITCH HOUSE is an ecological house adaptable to various environments. Unprecedented opportunity: Supervised by an architect, the winners’ project will be built by the Groupe Plurial.
2nd prize: Julien LECOINTRE & Timothée POISBLAUD (ENSA Rouen) with CADRE MODULABLE, a project which tries to be an alternative to residentials standarts by joining the ZAC planning programme.
Thus, it offers a typology where unused fragmented residues coming from the building construction would be integrated to housings. The house, composed of 2 hollowed boxes articulated by an entrance block, disposes of patios. The interior space is thus extended towards the exterior. The winners received a € 500 financial allowance.
3rd Prize: Alice DECOCQ (ENSA Toulouse) for her project HOME SWEET HOME, a house close to nature which is built at the north-west of the plot so as to benefit from southern solar contributions and large views, in addition to limiting the vis-à-vis. The heated volume is a compact block on which, like a shell, a secondary independant structure optimizes the insulation by the exterior of the heated volume. She received a € 200 financial allowance.
